Even though we’ve had a pretty mild winter, now that its March and there is no snow on the ground, I’m just dying for real flowers in the garden. Living in Michigan, that is just not an option since it could very well snow next week.
So instead, we’ve settled for flower themed arts and crafts. Our favorite one lately was painting egg cartons to create these pretty spring flowers. Bunched together, we’ve created a dozen flowers with green pipe cleaner stems.
Follow these few steps below to make your own bouquet of egg carton flowers this spring!
What you need:
- 1 empty plastic egg carton
- 12-24 green pipe cleaners
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
Step 1 – Cut out each individual egg pod from the empty egg carton. Carefully cut the rim of the pod to create a little cup. Carefully cut from the top of the cup in towards the center to create petals. Repeat with each of the egg pods. You can usually get about 24 egg “flowers” from each carton.
Step 2 – Allow your child to paint the inside of the flowers with acrylic paint.
Step 3 – Allow the flowers to dry thoroughly.
Step 4 – Once completely dried, wrap a pipe cleaner around the back of the flower. If you have difficulty getting the pipe cleaner to stay, apply a small amount of hot glue to the base to keep the pipe cleaner attached.
Step 5 – Place the finished flowers in to your favorite vase.
That’s it! These make perfect Spring centerpiece decorations that your little ones will be proud of.
