This summer I’m in love with watermelon. There was just a cute article in Bon Appétit Magazine about the many ways to use watermelon, and I’m so excited to try some of them. Watermelon cake? Yes, please!
I thought it would be cute to make some watermelon inspired sugar cookies.
I made a post with these cookies on Instagram adding in a little phrase, “You’re one in a melon!” It one of my most successful ones so far, I might add…so we decided to add the tutorial to the blog!
What you need:
- Cake Mate® Decorating Tips (8-pack)
- Cake Mate® Green Icing
- Cake Mate® White Icing
- Cake Mate® Pink Icing
- Cake Mate® Black Icing
- Sugar cookies
Step 1 – Attach the #18 small star decorating tip to the Cake Mate® Green Icing tube. Pipe green stars along the side of one of the sugar cookies creating a half circle. This will be the rind of the watermelon.
Step 2 – Attach the #5 small round tip to the Cake Mate® White Icing tube. Pipe a thin white line on the inside of the green star border.
Step 3 – Attach the #2D drop flower decorating tip to the Cake Mate® Pink Icing tube. Fill in the half circle of the watermelon rind with large drop flowers.
Step 4 – Attach the #3 writing tip to the Cake Mate® Black Icing tube. Carefully make small black dots on the pink icing to resemble watermelon seeds.
Step 5 – Repeat steps 1 through 4 with the remaining sugar cookies.
Here’s a quick video tutorial of how to easily pipe the watermelons on these Watermelon Sugar Cookies:
