My average day at the bed and breakfast includes a lot of cleaning. I mean a lot. Multiple bathrooms, floors and stairs are cleaned daily. We have beautiful, original hardwood floors and I wouldn’t trade them for the world…but cleaning them can be a little bit daunting.
We all know there is no need to buy expensive cleaning solutions when white vinegar works just as well. It’s inexpensive and works well for most surfaces and purposes. The only downfall, is the smell. It doesn’t make for a very appetizing first impression when our guests arrive at the bed & breakfast and the first thing they smell is sour vinegar.
So, we found this little cleaning tip; add orange peels to cut the vinegar and leave the house smelling refreshing for our guests.
It’s that simple really, just add citrus peels to a mason jar and fill with white vinegar. After a few days, the solution is ready to use and your clean home will smell like citrus fruits instead of vinegar.
What you need:
- Large Ball mason jar and lid (with a wide mouth)
- Cutie clementine or orange peels
- White distilled vinegar
Step 1 – Place the Cutie peels in the mason jar.
Step 2 – Fill the mason jar with white distilled vinegar.
Step 3 – Let the jar sit for 2-3 days out of direct sunlight.
Step 4 – Dilute the vinegar solution with water for an all-purpose cleaning solution! Pour in a spray bottle or bucket for mopping.
We go through a lot of oranges at the bed and breakfast. On top of that, our daughter crushes a bag of Cuties in record time. We found that this is a great way to reuse the Cutie peels she devours.
Packaged with a few other cleaning essentials, these would make wonderful homemade Mother’s Day gifts.
