Spring is finally here! To celebrate, we made these Spring inspired bath bombs using our homemade bath bomb recipe.
This time around, we decorated the bath bombs with cute Spring and Easter themed “cupcake picks” from Cake Mate®.
We also tried using plastic Easter eggs as our mold with a few Easter sprinkles to add an extra pop of color.
Since they turned out so well, I’d be happy to share the recipe with you all to try out at home too!
What you need:
- 1 Cup baking soda
- 1/2 Cup Epsom salt
- 1/2 Cup cornstarch
- 1/2 Cup citric acid
- 4 teaspoons water
- 5-6 drops of essential oil (we used lavender)
- 5 drops food coloring (preferably the liquid kind, not the gel kind)
- Plastic Easter eggs or foil lined cupcake liners
- Sprinkles (optional)
- Cake Mate® Cupcake Picks (Golden Bunnies and Tulips – optional)
Step 1 –
In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients (Epsom salt, cornstarch, baking soda and citric acid). Stir well using a whisk.
Step 2 –
In a separate bowl, mix together the liquid ingredients (food coloring, water and essential oil).
Step 3 –
Very slowly pour in your mixed liquids into the dry ingredients bowl.
Step 4 –
Quickly whisk together to create a crumbly mixture. Test the mixture out by using your hands to ball together some of the mixture. If its packs together and sticks a little bit (similarly to brown sugar) you’re all set. If not, add just 1 teaspoon of water and mix well again. Do NOT add to much water or the batch will be ruined. I learned this the hard way. 🙁
Step 5 –
Once the mixture starts to pack together a little (it won’t be perfect it may still fall apart a little) you’re ready to start molding your bath bombs. You can create small two inch sized balls or puck shaped bombs with your hands. Carefully place the cupcake picks into the center of the bomb. Or, try using a plastic Easter egg. Just be sure to tightly pack the powder together.
Step 6 –
Place the bath bombs onto foil lined cupcake liners or a baking sheet with aluminum foil to dry overnight. Or, if using a plastic Easter egg, keep the egg tightly shut overnight with the bath bomb inside. This will allow the bomb to dry in the correct form without breaking in half.
Have fun making your own scents, colors and sprinkle combinations! Just wrap with a little bit of cellophane gift wrap and tie with a bow to make a cute homemade gift. These make adorable gifts for bridal showers, baby showers, Easter or Mother’s Day.
